Volkswagen New Polo Preview

Volkswagen launched the Polo in the Indian market in the year 2010. The Polo was Volkswagen’s first offering in the premium hatchback segment in India and ever since then the manufacturer has made timely updates to its appearance and the power train. Recently, Volkswagen launched the 2018 Polo and the vehicle made its global debut at an event in Berlin, Germany.
Volkswagen Polo Exterior
The exterior of Polo takes its cues from its elder sibling, the Golf, although its own identity is evident. The new hatchback has sporty lines and sharp creases all over, however, it still retained the essence of the Polo.
The silhouette of the new vehicle is now longer and has breached the four metre mark. This translates into a roomier cabin for the passengers. However, when it is launched in the Indian market, the new Polo will be restricted to under four metres in length. The wider Polo now sits on larger wheels with five spoked designer alloys. The roof is flat and has not been altered much. The car retains its forward sloping stance.
At the centre of the cabin console is the Active Info Display, offered for the first time in a Volkswagen hatchback. This is similar to Audi’s virtual cockpit and when chosen as an option, it replaces the physical instrument cluster with a full digital display. The dashboard also houses a touch screen infotainment system which ranges from 6.5-8 inches in size and can display a variety of car and driver related information. The vehicle will also retain some standard safety features such as two-airbags for the front and ABS-EBD as well.
The new Polo is expected to be powered by the same engine options as the current generation Polo, although a little tweaking in the power figures is expected. Powering the new hatchback will be the 1.2-litre petrol and a 1.5-litre diesel. The manufacturer will also offer a GT trim in the new Polo and it will be equipped with a 1.2-litre turbo charged petrol engine.
When launched, the new Polo will rival against the Hyundai Elite i20, Maruti Suzuki Baleno, Fiat Punto and the Toyota Etios Liva.
