The launch date of Xiaomi's upcoming flagship is out. Earlier this week Xiaomi announced that it is going to launch the long-time rumoured Mi 9 on the same day when Samsung launches its Galaxy S10 series. The Xiaomi Mi 9 will launch on February 20 but only in China. The global launch of the Mi 9 is on February 24 at Mobile World Congress 2019 event which is scheduled to take place in Barcelona, Spain. On the same date, Feb 24, Nokia will launch its most awaited Nokia 9 PureView phone which will be the world's first five camera phone. We are going to talk about the Xiaomi Mi 9 here.
Ahead of the launch, a lot has been revealed about the Mi 9. In fact, the company itself has revealed some key specs about the flagship smartphone. Xiaomi CEO Lei Jun confirmed that the Mi 9 will come with reverse charging technology something which we can also see in the Galaxy S10 series. Not just that, Jun has also posted official pictures of the Mi 9 which reveal that the phone will come with waterdrop notch, triple rear cameras and gradient finish. With just a few days to go for the Mi 9, almost everything starting from specs, special features and expected price of flagship device have been revealed.
--Gradient finish is one of the key highlights of the Xiaomi Mi 9. In the official pictures posted by Jun the Mi 9 appears in blue colour variant which reflects shades of blue, purple, and green when light falls on the back cover.
--Triple camera setup on the back is another USP of the Mi 9. The pictures posted by Xiaomi CEO go in line with the past rumours and leaks. The Mi 9 comes with triple cameras which sit in a vertical fashion on the back panel. Right below the camera setup, there's the LED flash. Overall, the back panel design of the Mi 9 looks extremely clean and classy which not too many things.
--Looks like, with the Mi 9, Xiaomi is taking a step extra when it comes to the cameras. The Mi 9 is rumoured to include a 48MP primary sensor, 12MP secondary sensor with PDAF support and the third is a TOF camera. The front camera of the Mi 9 will sit inside the waterdrop notch. The Mi 9 comes with only single camera on the front. Rumours suggest that the flagship phone will come packed with a 25MP selfie shooter on the front.
--The Mi 9 will be Xiaomi's first flagship phone to come with waterdrop notch. Thanks to the waterdrop notch that the Mi 9 will sport very minimal bezels on the sides compared to its predecessor, Mi 8, which was launched last year. The smartphone will also come with an in-display fingerprint sensor.
--Ahead of the launch the full specs sheet of the Mi 9 has been leaked. The specs sheet reveals that the Mi 9 will come with 6.4-inch Super AMOLED display and run on Android 9 Pie software based on the latest MIUI 10. Some rumours suggest that Mi 9 could be the first Xiaomi phone to come with the company's next-gen MIUI aka MIUI 11.
--On the hardware front, the Mi 9 will be the first phone from Xiaomi to be powered by Qualcomm's Snapdragon 855 chipset. The flagship Xiaomi phone is expected to launch in three models -- 256GB + 8GB RAM, 128GB + 6GB RAM, and 128GB + 8GB RAM. The leaked specs sheet also revealed that the Mi 9 will be packed by a 3500mAh battery and feature a Type-C 1.0 reversible connector.
-- Besides the specs, the expected price of the Mi 9 has also been revealed by rumours. Leaks suggest that the Mi 9 will come with a starting price of CNY 2,999 which roughly translates to Rs 30,500. As for the availability, the Mi 9 is said to be available for grabs sometime around March. The smartphone is rumoured to be available in several colour options like Black, Blue, White, and Gold.
--Xiaomi will launch the Mi 9 in China on Feb 20. The global launch event is set for February 24 in Barcelona during MWC 2019 event. Considering the track record we believe Xiaomi may not launch the Mi 9 in India, considering the Mi 8 also didn't make its way to the country. In India, Xiaomi will continue to severe the consumers with its budget-friendly smartphones.
